WHAT'S THE LAST THING A DRUMMER EVER SAYS IN A BAND?
"Hey guys ... why don't we try one of my songs?
ROCK AND ROLL FACT OF THE DAY: 1969, The Who gave a press preview of their new rock opera 'Tommy' at Ronnie Scott's in London, England. The double album about a "deaf, dumb and blind boy" who becomes the leader of a messianic movement, was the first musical work to be billed overtly as a rock opera. In 1998 it was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame for "historical, artistic and significant value" and has now sold over 20 million copies worldwide | |||||||||

YOU can jam "Hotel California" with Don Felder!
Monday, April 18, 2016
Don Felder and "HOTEL CALIFORNIA"
At our next camp we are thrilled to welcome legendary musician and songwriter DON FELDER. Don is the co-writer of the iconic hit "HOTEL CALIFORNIA, contributing the music, while his Eagle's bandmates Don Henley and Glenn Frey wrote the lyrics. According to Nielsen Soundscan, "Hotel California" is played on American radio once every 11 minutes — that's about 131 times a day. Rolling Stone magazine ranked it number 49 on its list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time". It was named one of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll.
The song's guitar solo was voted the best solo of all time by readers of Guitarist magazine in 1998, and was ranked 8th on Guitar Magazine's Top 100 Guitar Solos. The song was also included in the music video game Guitar Hero World Tour. It was ranked the number 1 in the list of the best 12-string guitar songs of all times by Guitar World magazine in 2015.
Written not far from the Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp location in Los Angeles, the working title for "Hotel California" was "Mexican Reggae" due to it's Latin and reggae influence.Felder described the writing of the lyrics: "Don Henley and Glenn wrote most of the words. All of us kind of drove into L.A. at night. Nobody was from California, and if you drive into L.A. at night... you can just see this glow on the horizon of lights, and the images that start running through your head of Hollywood and all the dreams that you have, and so it was kind of about that... what we started writing the song about." Three months after its first release, the single was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), representing one million copies shipped. In 2009, the song was further certified Platinum (Digital Sales Award) by the RIAA for sales of one million digital downloads, and has since sold over 3 million downloads. In a recent radio interview, when asked about his upcoming appearance at Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp, Don said “The three words I have to teach these people that will really help their skills the most is ‘play, play, play.’ If you play and play and play every day, that’s how you get good at just about anything, whether it’s music or art or acting. You just have to be obsessed with it and do it all of the time. I know when I was on the road with The Eagles’ ‘Hell Freezes Over’ [tour], I was playing between eight and ten hours a day every day. I’d sit in my hotel room and play for a couple of hours, go down and get on a plane, fly out to a stadium, do an hour soundcheck, sit backstage for three or four hours waiting for the show to play, then go play a three hour show, go back to the hotel and go to the next city" Click here to read the full interview This camp is YOUR opportunity to spend time with this rock and roll icon and get real insight into what inspires him, his songwriting process and ask the questions you've always wanted to ask about his amazing and enduring career. You will also jam one of his timeless classic hits as you take the stage with Don at the Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp facility. Don't miss out on this bucket list experience!
